Born
in Chicago in 1962, Tim Chess spent his first fourteen years moving around
on the east coast. He then moved to San Diego, living there on and off
for twenty years. He currently resides in Oregon.
Tim has an unusually sensitive nature and has struggled over the years
to cope with the challenges of living in this fast pace, mechanistic,
and isolating culture. By the time he was in his mid twenties he went
into a serious depression. Instinctively, he turned to drawing to help
process and express his deep concerns for humanity and his own pain. He
has been unable to work for the past five years and spends the majority
of his time drawing and wandering in nature. Drawing with intensity for
hours each day, he works on both found paper (bags, cereal boxes, newspaper,
etc.) and art paper, using mostly soft pastels, oil pastels, and crayon.
Each work is spontaneous, without the use of models or preconceived ideas,
often starting chaotically and evolving into the finished works. Tim has
had several one person shows. |
